Medicare Open Enrollment Tips for Hialeah Seniors

Hialeah is one of Florida's largest cities and home to a large Cuban-American senior community. Every fall, Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 - December 7) gives Hialeah seniors the opportunity to review and change their Medicare coverage.

Here are the most important tips to make the most of Open Enrollment in Hialeah.

Tip #1: Do Not Auto-Renew Without Reviewing

The biggest mistake Hialeah seniors make during Open Enrollment is doing nothing. Your plan automatically renews -- but that does not mean it is still the best option. Plans change every year: premiums go up, formularies change, and networks shift.

Take 30 minutes to review your options. It can save you hundreds of dollars.

Tip #2: Check Your Annual Notice of Change

Your current plan must send you an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by September 30. This document outlines every change to your plan for the coming year. Read it carefully -- especially the sections on premiums, drug coverage, and network changes.

Tip #3: Verify Your Doctors Are Still In-Network

If you have Medicare Advantage, confirm your primary care doctor and specialists are still in your plan's network for the coming year. Provider directories are not always up to date -- call your doctor's office directly.

Tip #4: Compare Drug Coverage

Drug formularies change every year. A medication that was on Tier 1 last year may move to Tier 3 this year. Use Medicare's Plan Finder at medicare.gov or work with me to compare drug costs across all available plans.

Tip #5: Consider Whether Medicare Advantage Is Still Right for You

If your health needs have changed -- more specialist visits, a hospitalization, or new medications -- it may be worth comparing Medicare Advantage to a Medigap plan. Medigap offers more predictable costs and no network restrictions.

Hialeah's Medicare Market

Hialeah is in Miami-Dade County, which has one of the richest Medicare Advantage markets in Florida. You have access to plans from UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Aetna, Simply Healthcare, Devoted Health, and more -- many with $0 premiums and strong benefits.
