Why Working With a Local Florida Medicare Agent Can Save You Thousands

When it comes to Medicare, most people do one of three things: they call the 1-800 number on a TV commercial, they go directly to an insurance company's website, or they try to figure it out on their own. All three approaches can cost you significantly more than working with an independent local Medicare agent.

Here is exactly how working with a local Florida Medicare agent can save you thousands of dollars -- and a lot of headaches.

Reason #1: Independent Agents Compare All Carriers

When you call a Medicare Advantage plan's 1-800 number, you are talking to a captive agent who can only sell you that company's plans. They have no incentive to tell you that a competitor offers better coverage at a lower price.

An independent broker like me represents all major carriers in Florida. I have no loyalty to any single company -- my only loyalty is to finding you the best plan for your situation.

The savings: I regularly find Medigap plans that are $50-$100/month cheaper than what seniors are currently paying -- for identical coverage. That is $600-$1,200/year in savings.

Reason #2: We Know the Local Market

Florida's Medicare market varies significantly by county and zip code. A plan that is excellent in Daytona Beach may not be available -- or may be significantly more expensive -- in Miami or Tampa.

As a Florida-based broker, I know the local market intimately. I know which carriers have the strongest networks in your area, which plans have been stable year over year, and which ones have a history of rate increases.

Reason #3: We Prevent Costly Enrollment Mistakes

Medicare enrollment mistakes can be permanent and expensive. The most common mistakes I prevent:

  • Missing the enrollment window and facing permanent late enrollment penalties
  • Taking COBRA instead of Medicare and losing the Special Enrollment Period
  • Choosing the wrong plan type and being locked into a Medicare Advantage plan when a Medigap plan would have been better
  • Missing the Medigap open enrollment window and losing the right to enroll without medical underwriting

A single enrollment mistake can cost thousands of dollars per year -- permanently. A 30-minute conversation with me can prevent all of them.

Reason #4: We Verify Your Doctors Are Covered

Before recommending any Medicare Advantage plan, I verify that your current doctors and hospitals are in-network. This prevents the painful -- and expensive -- experience of enrolling in a plan only to discover your doctor does not accept it.

Reason #5: We Review Your Coverage Every Year

Medicare plans change every year. Premiums go up, formularies change, and networks shift. I review my clients' coverage every Annual Enrollment Period and proactively reach out if I find a better option.

Many of my clients have saved hundreds of dollars per year simply because I found a plan with identical coverage at a lower premium during the annual review.

Reason #6: Our Services Are Completely Free

Here is the part that surprises most people: working with an independent Medicare broker costs you nothing. I am compensated by the insurance carriers when you enroll -- at the same rate regardless of which plan you choose. You pay the same premium whether you enroll through me or directly with the carrier.

There is no financial incentive for me to recommend one plan over another. My only incentive is to find you the best plan so you stay happy and refer your friends and family.

Reason #7: We Are Here Year-Round

My relationship with my clients does not end at enrollment. I am available year-round to answer questions, help with claims issues, and assist with plan changes. When you call me, you get me -- not a call center in another state.

The Bottom Line

Working with a local independent Medicare agent in Florida is one of the smartest financial decisions you can make when approaching Medicare eligibility. It costs you nothing, saves you time, and can save you thousands of dollars over the course of your retirement.

I have been helping Florida seniors navigate Medicare for 29 years. I would love to help you too.
