Humana Medicare Advantage Changes in Chesterfield County, Virginia for 2027

If you live in Chesterfield County and Humana notified you that your Medicare Advantage plan will not be offered in 2027, you may have important Medicare decisions to make. Your options and potential Medigap guaranteed-issue rights depend on what is happening with your specific plan. Call 1-800-DUDE-309 (800-383-3309) for independent guidance.

GI window: approximately November 1, 2026March 5, 2027

For a January 1, 2027 plan termination, your guaranteed-issue window typically runs from approximately November 1, 2026 through March 5, 2027. Do not wait until January — you can enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan before your Humana plan ends, with coverage effective January 1, 2027.

Does a Humana Letter Automatically Give You GI Rights?

Not every letter from Humana triggers a guaranteed-issue right. An Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) — which describes changes to your plan's benefits, premiums, or cost-sharing for the coming year — does not by itself create a federal guaranteed-issue right to Medicare Supplement coverage.

A federal guaranteed-issue right is triggered when your Medicare Advantage plan is actually terminating or leaving your service area. If you received a notice stating your specific plan will not be offered in 2027, or that Humana is no longer offering Medicare Advantage in your area, that is the type of notice that may trigger your GI rights.

The type of notice and your specific circumstances determine whether you have a guaranteed-issue right to Medicare Supplement coverage. Have your Humana notice in front of you when you call — the dates and language on it determine your GI window and available options.

What Should You Do If Your Humana Plan Is Ending?

Confirm your notice type

Review the letter from Humana. A plan termination or service-area exit notice is different from a routine Annual Notice of Change. The specific language determines your rights.

Understand your GI window

If your plan is terminating effective January 1, 2027, your guaranteed-issue window typically opens approximately November 1, 2026 and closes March 5, 2027. You can enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan before your Humana plan ends.

Review Medicare Supplement options

Under the applicable federal GI right, eligible beneficiaries may enroll in certain Medicare Supplement plans without medical underwriting. Plan G is the most commonly selected option for beneficiaries newly eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020.

Enroll in Part D before December 7

If you switch from Humana Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare plus a Supplement, you will lose your bundled drug coverage. Enroll in a standalone Part D plan during AEP: October 15, 2026 – December 7, 2026.

Guaranteed-Issue Rights and Medicare Supplement Plans

When a Medicare Advantage plan terminates or leaves a service area, affected members may have a federal guaranteed-issue right to enroll in certain Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans — without medical underwriting. This means insurers cannot deny coverage or charge higher premiums based on your health history during the GI window.

Under the MACRA framework, beneficiaries who became newly eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020 are not eligible for Medicare Supplement Plan F. Plan G is the applicable alternative for these beneficiaries. Plan G covers all Medicare cost-sharing except the Part B deductible, making it one of the most comprehensive Medigap options available.

Plan N is not in the applicable federal GI list for this type of qualifying event. The plans available under the applicable federal GI right for a Medicare Advantage plan termination are Plan A, Plan B, Plan C (if eligible), Plan D, Plan F (if eligible), Plan G, Plan K, and Plan L. An independent broker can confirm which plans you qualify for based on your specific notice and Medicare eligibility date.

Never assume that every Humana member in Chesterfield County qualifies for guaranteed-issue rights. Eligibility depends on receiving an actual plan termination or service-area reduction notice for your specific plan — not a general market announcement or ANOC.

Part D Drug Coverage — Act Before December 7, 2026

If you switch from Humana Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare plus a Supplement, you will lose your bundled drug coverage. Enroll in a standalone Part D plan during the Annual Enrollment Period: October 15, 2026December 7, 2026, for coverage starting January 1, 2027. Missing this window can result in a late-enrollment penalty.

"Very Knowledgable and personable! William made a seemingly difficult transition easy and seamless. I appreciated his unbiased opinion and personalized what was best for me. He took great care in listening to my concerns. I never felt rushed and felt he took a personal interest in assisting me to make the best choice. Not one of those "Big box" sales as seen on TV. Highly recommend William."
