Best Pickleball Courts in Northeast Florida for Adults 55+
Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America — and Northeast Florida has some of the best courts in the state. Here is where to play, who to play with, and how to get started if you are brand new to the game.
Best Pickleball Courts in Northeast Florida for Adults 55+
If you haven't tried pickleball yet, you're missing the most fun you can have on a court. If you have tried it, you already know — it's addictive, social, and genuinely great exercise. Either way, Northeast Florida is one of the best places in the country to play.
Here's a complete guide to the best courts, leagues, and resources for adults 55+ across Palm Coast, Flagler County, Volusia County, St. Johns County, and Jacksonville.
Why Pickleball Is Perfect for Active Seniors
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong on a smaller court with a slower ball. That means:
- Lower impact on knees and hips than tennis
- Shorter rallies — less running, more strategy
- Easy to learn — most beginners are rallying within 30 minutes
- Deeply social — the culture is welcoming and the games rotate players constantly
- Great cardio — don't let the smaller court fool you
The American Pickleball Association estimates the average player burns 350–475 calories per hour. It's real exercise wrapped in a social event.

Getting Started: Tips for Beginners
1. Just show up to open play. The pickleball community is famously welcoming. Show up, introduce yourself as a beginner, and someone will teach you the basics within minutes.
2. You don't need expensive equipment to start. A beginner paddle ($30–$60) is fine for your first few months. Don't invest in a $150+ paddle until you know you love the game.
3. Wear court shoes. Running shoes work in a pinch, but court shoes (tennis shoes) provide better lateral support and will protect your knees and ankles.
4. Learn the kitchen rule first. The non-volley zone (the "kitchen") is the most important rule in pickleball. You cannot volley (hit the ball out of the air) while standing in the kitchen. Learn this before your first game.
5. Start with beginner/intermediate open play. Most facilities have skill-level sessions. Start at the beginner level even if you're athletic — the game has specific skills that take time to develop.
The Medicare Connection
I'm a Medicare broker, not a pickleball pro — but I mention pickleball to clients all the time. Here's why: staying physically active is one of the most powerful things you can do for your health as you age, and physical health directly affects your healthcare costs and Medicare needs.
Medicare covers an Annual Wellness Visit every year — use it to discuss your activity level and any joint concerns with your doctor. Many Medicare Advantage plans also include fitness benefits (gym memberships, fitness classes) that can offset the cost of court fees and equipment.
If you're not sure what fitness benefits your Medicare plan includes, I'm happy to help you find out.
